You Don’t Need to Go Faster. Direction Matters, Not Speed!

When was the last time you actually paused and checked in on how you’re doing with your money?

Not how busy life feels. Not what everyone else is doing. Not what you think you should be doing. But really… you.
Because I don’t know about you, but life can get so full so fast. We’re juggling kids, schedules, work, responsibilities… and we’re really good at staying busy.
I’m guilty of this too.
We fill our time,
check the boxes,
and we keep things moving.
But in the middle of all that, it’s so easy to go weeks… even months… without ever stopping to ask,
“Am I actually heading in the direction I want to go with my money?”
And that question matters more than we think.
Because a lot of times, we’re moving, but we’re not really moving forward. We’re paying bills, swiping cards, making decisions as things come up… but we haven’t slowed down long enough to see if our money is actually aligning with what matters most to us.
It just feels like we are stuck in a hamster wheel where we move but we aren't making progress.

And on top of that, there is just so much noise around money.
Advice everywhere you turn.
Save more.
Spend less.
Pay off debt as fast as possible.
Don’t ever eat out.
Buy a house.
Don’t buy a house.
It’s a lot.
And while some of it can be helpful, it can also leave you feeling overwhelmed… or like you’re doing it wrong… or like you’re somehow behind everyone else.
But here’s what I want you to hear—so clearly:
All of that noise? It can pull your focus away from the one thing that actually matters… your direction.
That’s why I want you to do something really simple today.
Assess Direction, Not Speed (all it takes is 10 minutes)
I don’t want you to fix anything. I don’t want you to overhaul your whole financial plan. I just want you to take 10 minutes… sit in the quiet… and reflect.
Ask yourself honestly… How am I doing with my money right now?

Am I at peace… or constantly stressed?
Am I making progress… even if it’s small?
Do I feel more confident than I did a year ago… or do I feel stuck?
And just sit with your answers.
Because when you do this, one of two things usually happens.
Sometimes you realize… “Wow, I’ve actually come a long way.” Even if it doesn’t feel like it day to day, you start to see growth. And that’s so motivating. It reminds you that what you’re doing is working, and it gives you the confidence to keep going.
Other times, you might realize… “I haven’t really made the progress I thought I would.” And if that’s you, I just want to say—give yourself some grace.
This happens. I’ve been there too. We set good intentions, we have goals in our hearts, but life gets busy and we don’t always follow through the way we hoped.
But that moment of awareness?
It’s not failure. It’s actually the starting point for change.
Because you can’t shift direction if you never stop long enough to see where you’re headed.
There’s a quote I heard that really stuck with me, and it’s this:
“Direction is more important than speed.”
And this is everything when it comes to your finances. Because it’s so easy to get caught up in how fast you’re paying off debt… or how quickly your savings is growing… or how your timeline compares to someone else’s.
But the truth is: direction matters, not speed.
It's totally OK if you move slowly, imperfectly, with a lot of real life happening in between… but if you’re moving in the right direction, you’re building something that lasts.
That’s what I want for you.
Not burnout. Not pressure. Not trying to keep up with everyone else.
Just steady, intentional progress.

Because your financial journey?
It’s not going to be perfect. There will be bumps in the road. Unexpected expenses. Seasons where things feel tight or off track.
That doesn’t mean you’ve failed. It just means you’re living real life.
And when your focus shifts from speed to direction, those moments don’t stop you—they just become part of the journey.
So if you take one thing from this, let it be this:
You don’t need to go faster. You just need to make sure you’re heading in the right direction.
Small steps count. Even slow progress matters.
So take a few minutes today. Sit with where you are. Be honest, be kind to yourself, and then ask…
“What’s my next step forward?”
Because that’s how real progress happens—one intentional step at a time. 💛
